Wife of Mr George Snr, mother of 13 children (photo of couple and 13 children – see Sheila ROBERTSON née DERNIE, her granddaughter) Mary took her mother’s place as sewing mistress at the school in 1877, but lost her job when her father was sacked! At the time of the 1881 census Mary, her husband and their first three children were living with the ROBERTS. In 1890 HUNT describes Mary as “a most difficult person to work with when trying to discipline her son!“ |

Early in 1890 George missed a lot of school because of delicate health, he was put back with the younger class. In May 1890 – HUNT punished George for gross disobedience – Mary removed George and his brother from the school.
