From Margaret ILOTT of Morehouse - In William BELL's 1698 Will, he names John SMITH as a tenant of an ancient cottage, with the property left for lifetime use by William's widowed daughter, Mary TAYLOR [widow of Thomas d. Dec 1686], and therafter his granddaughter Elizabeth BIRKITTS [BIRKETT]:
"And three ancient cottages in ye occupation of Joseph SUDBURY, Elnathan PILGRIM, and John SMITH, and two new erected cottages, in yeoccupation of William PRAT, and Thomas JALLAND, with their Appurtenances to them belonging, situate, and being in Coddington aforesd and one and twenty acres of meddow, in Holm meddows, in ye sd County of Nott; unto Mary my daughter, during her natural life, and from and after her decease I devest, and give ye same unto Elizabeth BIRKITTS my grandchild, and her heirs for ever ............" Apart from other bequests (mainly to his five grandaughters) he also £2 left annually to the poor of Coddington out of land on Beacon Field.
Property passed into the BIRKETT family and was sold on death of Mrs [Elizabeth] BIRKETT at auction at The Plough in 1820. |

3 Ms Emma Louise - d 22.5.1896 aged 28 - daughter 15 Ms Emma Louise - aged 21 in July 1888, she became sewing mistress at the school. She had been a pupil-teacher at Christ Church School in Newark. In April 1890 Louise's salary was raised to £30 year. She was listed as assistant mistress, but was ill and had to resign through delicate health on 24th Oct 1892. 15 Ms Margaret - in 1889, she joined her sister on the school staff as a monitor. In March 1890 she was taken ill - in April 1890 her part of the £62 6s 0d grant was £5 5s 0d. 15 M and Ella - between 1886 and 1892 both received school good attendance award.
