This is a copy of the enclosure award text by Hugh Daybell.  There is no known copy of the enclosure map for Coddington, Nottinghamshire.  However, a map showing the enclosure grants, of unknown provenance on an early 20thC OS map has been filed in Nottinghamshire Archives. The map can be found here

Act 33 Geo II (1760) for dividing and inclosing the common fields, commons, meadows and other commonable lands and grounds, in the parish of Coddington, in the County of Nottingham. With consent of the several persons, proprietors.   (why missing from orig notes?)

?  Henry, Earl of Lincoln, in the place and stead of Thomas Nolles, Duke of Newcastle, all that piece or parcel of land lying and being open that part of the Common called the Moor whereon the Right to the Soil is or was in his said Majesty as Lord of the Manor and hundred of Newark or in the said Henry, Earl of Lincoln as Lesee thereof containing 3 acres and bounded by or abutting on the road from Barnby to Newark, South East  Of an allotment hereinafter made to Mr Nevile and his sons North West and North East and on the Balderton Lordship SW in lieu of and as a compensation for his and their to and interest in the Soil of the said Moor and Lands And which we do hereby adjudge to be a just and equitable recompense and consideration for such Right and Interest in the pursuance of this said Act.

?  Prebend Patron of the Advowson of the Vicarage of the Parish church of Stoke to which the church of Coddington aforesaid doth appertain and Owner and Proprietor of the Great Tithes .and to the Honourable Thomas Howard who by virtue of and under a Lease made to him for three lives by the said Doctor Charles Reynolds was or is seized of or intitled to the said Impropriate Tythe all that piece or parcel of land lying and being in the Pelmore Hill Field containing 136a 3r 22p and bounded by or abutting the Allotment in the Great Moor herein made to the said Prependary and the said Lesee and on the allotment in the said Moor herein made to Mr Heron towards the East on Balderton Road towards the West of an Old Inclosure and an allotment here in made to Mr Heron towards the North and an allotment herein made to Mr Nevile and his son to the South. And we do  order and direct that the said Prebendary or his successors or their lessee for the time being shall make and for ever hereafter repair and keep in repair the west fence of the same Allotment and such part of the North fence thereof as lies next to Mr Heron?s assortment.

And also 16a 2r 12p abutting an allotment of Wm Birkett and to Thom. Pratt Snr towards the South.

And also in the Great Moor 60 acres abutting on Barnby Lordship towards the East and South East on the allotment herein before made to the said Prebendary or his Lesee in Pelmore Hill Field towards the West on an allotment made to Mr Heron towards the North and on Allotments hereinafter made to Mr Neville and his son on the Moor towards the South.

?  And unto Thomas Wakefield leylands Close 7a 1r 28p with part of the Marsh and Moorbrats thereto adjoining 18a 1 r 3 p abutting an allotment herein made to Dr  Wilson towards the East on the Town of Coddington aforesaid towards the West of some Old Enclosures and on an allotment hereinafter made to Thomas Goss towards the North and on the Beckingham Road to the South.

And also  the parcel of land lying and being in Stonepit field under Newarkgate furlong and in the Berkeley’s field of Coddington aforesaid on Broom’s furlong containing 5a 1r 20p abutting an allotment of Joseph Winfield towards the East on an allotment hereinafter made to George Carby towards the West on Newark Road on the North and on an allotment hereinafter made to Mr Nevile towards the South.

Unto Thomas Heron  land lying in the Pelmore Hill  field containing 16a 1r 35p abutting on land hereinafter allotted to Thomas Heron on the Great Moor towards the East an Old Inclosure of the said Thom Heron towards the West on an allotment  hereinafter made to Wm Birkett to the North and of an allotment hereinbefore made to the Prebendary towards the South.

And also that parcel of the Berkeley’s Field aforesaid and on the Horseholm Furlong adjoining to the said Berkeleys Field containing 32a 1r 32 p of Wm Pocklington towards the East and South. The Drove road towards the West and on several allotments hereinafter made to Samuel Birkett, Stephen Ashwell and William Waite and his wife and Stephen Hough towards the North.

And also that piece or parcel in the Great Moor aforesaid containing 53 acres abutting on the Barnby Lordship towards the East on an allotment made hereinbefore  made to the said Thomas Heron and on the Pelmore hill Field allotment made to the Prebend towards the West on the allotment made to the Prebend in the Moor towards the South and on land hereinafter allotted  to Wm Birkett towards the North.

Unto the said Thomas Heron all that parcel of land lying in Hasbeck(?) Furlong in the Pasture adjoining to the Great Moor containing  9 a. 3r 9 p. and abutting on the Moor Lane towards the East on an allotment hereinafter made to John Ashwell towards the West on Beckingham  Rd towards the North and on an allotment hereinafter made to Stephen Ashwell towards the South.

And also that piece of land lying and being in the Stonepit Field and Berkeleys Field aforesaid on the North side of the Newark Road containing 51 a 3 r and abutting several allotments hereinafter made to Doctor Wilson, Sam Birkett and John Ashwell towards the East on Newark Lordship towards the West on an allotment hereinafter made ot Elizabeth Heron towards the North and on Newark Road towards the South.

?  Unto Elizabeth Heron all that land lying and being in the Stonepit and Berkeley’s Field containing 162 a 1r 26p and abutting several allotments hereinafter made to Thomas Pratt, Stephen Ashwell and Doctor Wilson towards the East and Newark and Winthorpe Lordships towards the West. The New Carr and part of Winthorpe Lordship towards the North and the last hereinbefore mentioned  allotment  to the said Thomas Heron to the South.

And also all that piece of ground in the New Carr containing 28 acres abutting on an allotment hereinbefore made to the Prebend to the East and on an allotment hereinbefore made to the said Eliz Heron and on an allotment hereinafter made to Thomas Pratt towards the South West.

And also all that land lying in the Great Moor containing 60 acres abutting on Barnby Lordship towards the East on the Moor Lane and towards the West on Beckingham Road towards the North and on an allotment hereinafter made to Stephen Ashwell towards the South.

 

 

?  And unto Christopher Nevil the Elder Esquire that parcel of land being in the Green Field of Coddington aforesaid containing 84 acres 0r 18p abutting on an allotment hereinafter made to the said Mr Nevile and his son on the Moor towards the East on the Balderton  Lordship towards the West and South and on an allotment hereinbefore made to the Prebend and on an allotment hereinafter made to Dr Wilson towards the North.

And also those 5acres 0r 20p lying in the Great Moor of Coddington aforesaid adjoining to the last mentioned allotment in the Green Field and abutting on the freehold allotment hereinafter made to Christopher Nevile in the Moor towards the East on the before mentioned allotment in the Green Field and abutting on towards the West on an allotment hereinbefore made to the said Prebendary towards the North and on Balderton Lordship towards the South.

Unto the said Christopher Nevile all that parcel of land lying in the Stonepit and Greenfields aforesaid containing 66a2r19p abutting on Old Enclosure and on an allotment hereinafter made to Joseph Wingfield and the Gravel Pit  towards the East on Newark Lordship towards the West on Greengate Drain towards the North and on an allotment hereinafter made to John Ashwell and John Cooper for the Poor of Coddington aforesaid to the South.

And also that parcel of land being in Berkeley’s Field aforesaid and the Meadows adjoining thereto containing 16a 2r 0p abutting on the Drove Road towards the East on an allotment hereinafter made to Dr Wilson towards the West on the New Carr towards the North.

And also all that parcel in the New Carr containing 11 a 2r 29 p abutting the Drove Lane towards the East on an allotment hereinafter made to Dr Wilson towards the West on Langford Lordship towards the North and on the Meadow towards the South.

And also all that parcel of ground lying in the Great Moor of Coddington containing 44a 3r 20 p abutting on the road from Barnby to Newark towards the South East on the Copyhold Allotment hereinbefore made to the said Chris Nevile towards the North West on an allotment hereinbefore made to the Prebend towards the North East and on an allotment hereinbefore made to the Lord of the Manor of Newark aforesaid and on Balderton Lordship towards the South (and we do order etc. instructions for fencing)

?  Unto Stephen Ashwell the Elder all that land lying in the Pelmore hill Field containing 42a 2r 03p and also the  Lane between the homestead of the said Stephen Ashwell and Wm Birkett’s homestead abutting on a freehold allotment hereinafter made to the said Stephen Ashwell towards the East an Old Inclosure and on an allotment hereinafter made to Wm Birkett towards the West on an Allotment hereinafter made to John Ashwell towards the North and on an allotment hereinafter made to William Birkett towards the South.

And also all that land lying in the Berkeley’s Field of Coddington aforesaid containing 49a 2r19p abutting on the allotment hereinafter made to John Ashwell and John Cooper in Trust for the poor of Coddington aforesaid towards the East on an allotment hereinbefore made to Mr Heron towards the West on Waites Lane towards the North and on an allotment in the said Berkeleys Field hereinafter made to Dr Wilson towards the South.

And also all that parcel lying in the Old Carr adjoining thereto containing 6 acres abutting on the allotments hereinafter made to George Carby the Mayor and Aldermen of Newark and Ormsby Anderton towards the East on an allotment hereinafter made to John Ashwell towards the West on allotment  hereinafter made to the said Stephen Ashwell and John Ashwell in the Old Carr towards the North and on the cottage lane towards the South.

And also all that parcel of Ground lying in the Old Carr below the last mentioned allotment containing 14acres abutting on allotment hereinafter made to Thomas Pratt the Elder towards the South East on an allotment in the Old Carr hereinafter made to John Ashwell towards the West and on Langford Lordship towards the North East and on the last before mentioned allotment to the said Stephen Ashwell towards the South.

And also all that parcel in the Great Moor containing 27acres abutting on Barnby Lordship towards the East on the Moor Lane towards the West on the freehold allotment hereinafter made to the said Stephen Ashwell in the Moor towards the North and on the Allotment in the Moor hereinafter made to William Birkett towards the South.

And also unto Stephen Ashwell all that piece or parcel of Ground lying and being in the Pelmore hill field and pasture of Coddington aforesaid adjoining the Great Moor containing 13acres 0r 06p abutting on the Moor Lane towards the East on an allotment hereinbefore made to the said Stephen Ashwell towards the West on land hereinbefore allotted to Mr Heron and on land hereinafter allotted to  John Ashwell towards the North and on an allotment hereinafter made to William Birkett towards the South.

And also all that piece or parcel of Ground lying and being in the Great Moor containing 20 acres abutting on Barnby Lordship towards the East on Moor Lane towards the West on an Allotment hereinafter made to Stephen Ashwell in the Great Moor towards the North and on the Copyhold Allotment hereinbefore made to the said Stephen Ashwell towards the South.

?  Unto Stephen Ashwell the Younger all that land lying in Sidebush furlong in the Berkeley’s field of Coddington aforesaid containing 9acres 0r 13p abutting on the several allotments hereinafter made to William Waite and Stephen Hough to John Starwell and to Ormsby Anderton towards the East on land hereinafter allotted  to Samuel Birkett towards the West on the Cottage Lane towards the North and on an allotment hereinbefore made to Mr Heron towards the South.

And also all that piece or parcel of ground in the Great Moor of Coddington aforesaid containing 12 acres abutting on Barnby Lordship towards the East on Moor Lane towards the West on an allotment in the Moor hereinbefore made to Mr Heron towards the North and on an allotment made to Stephen Ashwell the Elder towards the South.

?  Unto John Ashwell that parcel of land in the Pelmore Hill Field  of Coddington containing 34a 1r 07p abutting on an allotment hereinafter made to the said John Ashwell towards the East on an Old Inclosure towards the West on Beckingham Road towards the North and on an allotment herein before made to Stephen Ashwell the Elder to the South.

Also that piece of land lying in the Great Moor containing 21 acres abutting on an allotment hereinafter made to John Ashwell towards the East on an allotment hereinafter made to Samuel Birkett towards the West on Langford Lordship towards the North and on Beckingham Road towards the South.

Unto John Ashwell all that parcel lying and being on Rook West and Broomhill Lands Furlong in Berkeley’s field  containing 6 acres abutting on an allotment hereinbefore made to Stephen Ashwell the Elder towards the East on an allotment  hereinafter made to Samuel Birkett towards the West on allotments made to the said John Ashwell and to Samuel Birkett in the Old Carr towards the North and on Cottage Lane towards the South.

And also that piece of ground lying in the Old Carr containing 12 a 0r 20p abutting on an allotment hereinbefore made to Stephen Ashwell the Elder towards the East on several Allotments hereinafter made to John Cooper to the said John Ashwell and John Cooper in trust for the poor, to Wm. Pocklington Esq and to Samuel Birkett towards the West on Langford Lordship towards the North and on an allotment hereinbefore made to the said John Ashwell the Elder towards the South.

And also all that land lying in the Ryecliff furlong in the Berkeley’s field of Coddington aforesaid containing 4a 1r 23p abutting on an allotment hereinafter made to John Ashwell towards the East on an allotment hereinbefore made to Mr Heron towards the West on an allotment hereinafter made to Samuel Birkett towards the North and on the Newark Road towards the South.

Unto Jane Ashwell all that ground lying on Keys  acres and Moor Brat furlong in the Pastures adjoining the Great Moor and containing  9a 1r 01p abutting on an allotment hereinbefore made to Mr Heron towards the East on an allotment hereinbefore made to the said John Ashwell towards the West on Beckingham Road towards the North and on an allotment hereinbefore made to Stephen Ashwell the Elder towards the South.

And also that parcel of ground lying in the Great Moor of Coddington aforesaid containing 11acres abutting on an allotment hereinbefore made to the Vicar of Coddington towards the East on an allotment hereinbefore made to the said  John Ashwell  towards the West on Langford Lordship towards the North and Beckingham Road towards the South.

And also all that parcel of land lying in the Townside furlong aforesaid adjoining to the Blacksmith?s shop containing 4a 3r 32p abutting on the Town Street to the East on two allotments hereinafter made to Joseph Wingfield towards the West and South and on Newark Road to the North.

And also that parcel of Ground and Land lying upon the Smallthorne furlong in the Berkeley’s Field and the Meadows adjoining containing 9a 2r 0p abutting on an allotment hereinafter made to Dr Wilson towards the East on allotment hereinbefore made to the Prebend and on an allotment hereinafter made to Thomas Pratt the Elder towards the West on the New Carr towards the North and on Waites Lane towards the South.

And also that ground lying in the New Carr containing  7a 3r 29 p abutting on an allotment hereinafter made to Dr Wilson towards the East on land hereinbefore allotted to the Prebend towards West on Langford Lordship towards the North and on the allotment last before made to the said Wm Birkett towards the South.

And also that parcel of ground in the Great Moor containing fourty four acres (44acres) abutting on Barnby Lordship towards the East on Moor Lane towards the West hereinbefore made to Stephen Ashwell the Elder in the said Moor towards the North and on the allotment hereinbefore made to Mr Heron in the said Moor towards the South.

And also that land lying on Short Broomhill Lands in the Berkeley’s field of Coddington containing 8a 2r 12p abutting on an allotment hereinbefore made to Stephen Ashwell the Younger towards the East on an allotment hereinafter made to the said Sam Birkett towards the North East on the Drove Road towards the West and on an allotment hereinbefore made to Mr Heron towards the South.

And also that piece of ground lying in the pasture adjoining the last mentioned allotment containing 5a 3r 28p abutting an allotment hereinbefore made to John Ashwell towards the East on the Drove Road towards the West on an allotment hereinafter made to the said Samuel Birkett on the Old Carr towards the North and on the allotment last before made to the said Sam Birkett to the South West.

And also that piece of the Old Carr containing 3a 1r 04p abutting an allotment hereinbefore made to John Ashwell towards the East on the Drove Road towards the West on an allotment hereinafter made to Mr Pocklington towards the North and on the allotment last before made to the said Sam  Birkett and on an allotment hereinbefore made to John Ashwell towards the South.

And also that parcel of ground lying in the Moor and Moorbrats in the common pasture aforesaid containing 29a 3r 02p abutting on an allotment hereinbefore made to John Ashwell towards the East on Stableford Road towards the West on Langford Lordship towards the North and on Beckingham Road towards the South.

And also all that land lying in the Berkeley’s field containing 25a 0r 11p abutting an Old Inclosure and on Drove Road towards the East on an allotment made to Mrs /(?) and Mr Heron towards the West on allotments herein made to John Ashmore and John Cooper in Trust and to Stephen Ashwell the Elder towards the North and on an allotment hereinbefore made to Samuel Birkett to the South.

And also all that ground lying in the Moor Bratt’s furlong in the Common Pasture aforesaid and on the Great Moor adjoining thereto containing 35a 1r 23p abutting on an allotment hereinafter made to John Ashwell and John Cooper in Trust towards the East on an allotment  hereinbefore made to the Vicar and on allotments hereinafter made to Thomas Goss and Mr Pocklington towards the  West on Langford Lordship to the North and on Beckingham Road to the South.

Unto Bernard Wilson all that land lying in the Berkeley’s field of Coddington and in the Meadows adjoining thereto containing 8a 2r 25p abutting on an allotment hereinbefore made to Mr Nevile towards the East  on an allotment  hereinbefore made to Wm Birkett towards the West on the New Carr towards the North and on Waites lane to the South.

And also all that land lying in the Berkeleys field containing 24a2r06p abutting on the Drove Lane towards the East on an allotment hereinbefore made to Stephen Ashwell towards the West on Waites lane towards the North and on an allotment hereinbefore made to Dr Wilson towards the South.

And also that ground in the Old Carr containing 7a 3r 0p abutting an allotment herein made to John Ashwell towards the East on Drove Road towards the West, an allotment hereinafter made to John Cooper towards the North and an allotment hereinafter made to Mr Pocklington towards the South.

And also that ground adjoining the Poor or Town Houses aforesaid called the Pinder or Netherd’s Yard abutting the Poor houses towards the East, on Thomas Pratt’s homestead towards the West, on Samuel Birkett’s homestead towards the North.

And also that ground upon Moor Bratts furlong in the pasture and on the Great moor containing 30 a 0r 20 p abutting Stableford Road to the East, on an allotment hereinbefore made to Dr Wilson towards the West, on Langford Lordship towards the North and on Beckingham Road towards the South.

?  And unto William Pocklington that land lying in the Upper and Lower Elm’s and Horseholm  hadings (?) in the Berkeleys Field containing 10a 2r abutting an allotment hereinafter made to the said Wm Pocklington in the Marsh and Pasture to the East on Drove Road to the West on an allotment hereinbefore made to Mr Heron to the North and on the said Wm Pocklington?s homestead and on an allotment hereinafter made to Thomas Goss towards the South.

And also that parcel of land in the Old Carr containing 1a 3r abutting on an allotment hereinbefore made to John Ashwell towards the East on Drove Road towards the West on an allotment hereinbefore made to John Ashwell and John Cooper in Trust towards the North and on an allotment hereinbefore  made to Samuel Birkett to the South.

And also that ground lying in the Marsh and Pasture containing 19a 0r 12p abutting an allotment hereinafter made to William Pocklington in the Moor towards the East on the said Wm Pocklington’s allotment in the fields and on an allotment hereinafter made to Thomas Goss towards the West on an allotment hereinbefore made to Mr Heron towards the North and on an allotment hereinafter made to Thomas Goss in the Marsh towards the South.

And also that parcel of land lying in the Smallthorn furlong in the Berkeley’s Field containing 7 acres abutting on an allotment hereinbefore made to Wm Birkett towards the East, on an allotment hereinbefore made to Mr Heron towards the West on the New Carr towards the North and on Waites lane towards the South.

And also all that ground lying in the Moor and Old Carr containing 12acres abutting on an allotment hereinafter made to Jos Wingfield towards the South East on an allotment hereinbefore made to Stephen Ashwell the Elder towards the North West on Langford Lordship towards the North East  and on an allotment hereinafter made to George Carby towards the South.

And also that parcel of land in Lower Elms furlong and Calf Close in Berkeleys field containing 4acres abutting on an allotment hereinafter made to the said Thomas Goss and on an allotment hereinbefore made to Mr Pocklington to the East on an Old Inclosure and on an allotment made hereinbefore to Mr Pocklington to the West on an allotment to the said Mr Pocklington to the North and an Old Inclosure  and land hereafter allotted to the said Thomas Goss to the South.

And also that parcel of ground lying in the Marsh and Great Moor aforesaid containing 15a 2r 02p abutting on an allotment hereinbefore made to Dr Wilson to the East on Old Inclosure and on an allotment hereinbefore made to the said Thomas Goss towards the West on an allotment hereinbefore made to Mr Pocklington towards the North and on an allotment made to the Vicar towards the South.
